    NIN macros; or, I Hate Alt-6

    In the course of duoing NIN, I've been rapidly accruing "sets" of equipment which cover every contingency from "shadows down on a gibbous moon windsday" to "does this make me look fat". The issue I'm running into is managing all this sets and half sets and situational nonsense without breaking my fingers hitting sixteen macros. I'm sure Spellcast would fix a majority of these issues, but I'd like to save crying over xml for when I've reached 75. In the meantime, I'm using good ol' fashioned windower .txts.

    What I would like to know is how do you arrange your equipment sets? Do you have a separate macro for WS, WS at night, TP, TP at night, etc.? I'm very interested to see how I can make my palette more efficient, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    How I've done it is to just duplicate macro bars as a whole. Not like we don't have enough to play with now. Take the same general setup, copy it onto a bar, and tweak that to suit a task (making new script files if necessary).

    So I have one bar that's merit type stuff for Day, and another for night. A third bar is solo /DNC oriented. I haven't done much more than that since it covers what I use NIN for (don't do high end tanking, as I seem to hang out with a lot of tanks).

    Each set has a couple different TP gear macros, so I can swap between common stuff like AF+1 body or Haubergeon without editing anything. Or in the case of solo, have an evasion build macro.

    So it's a yes and no. I do have different macros for Day/Night/etc, but they're in the same place on different macro bars.

    My macros go a bit like this, in sets:

    Book-Ninja Macros:
    1. Normal Gear (Acc/att/Haste max) - Day
    2. Normal Gear (Acc/att/Haste max) - Night
    3. Ninja Chainmail +1 (dex build/Haste Max) - Day
    4. Ninja Chainmail +1 (dex build/Haste Max) - Night
    5. Mixed Tanking / Haste Katanas - Day
    6. Mixed Tanking / Haste Katanas - Night
    7. Enmity / Haste Staff Build (/drk) - Day
    8. Enmity / Haste Staff Build (/drk)- Night
    9. Enmity / Haste Staff Build (/rdm) - Day
    0. Enmity / Haste Staff Build (/rdm)- Night

    Etc. (yes, mixed tanking is using an osode ^______________^)

    Then, within these books, I have the same macro functions across all sets, so I don't get confused, etc.

    Ctrl- TP Party Macro (lols), Melee Gear, WS Gear, Enmity Gear, Ni, Ichi, Full Damage Resist (ohshi!), Evasion Build, Ninjitsu Build, "Movement Macro" (take off dusk)
    Alt- Voke (Stun, etc), Blind, Slow, Para, 5-0 is Elemental Wheel

    So basically, you'll have an assload of txt files, but once you get it done it's easy enough to update.

    The only part of my book that doesn't match up is basically a duplicate of my standard drk staff build, except it defaults to my fire resist set .txt file.

    For the life of me, I don't think I could stand using spellcast on nin. It works great on drg, I'm sure I could make it work great on my other jobs, but nin tanking is just too situational. Sometimes you don't want to blink, sometimes you it's easier to play the job then pre-worry about any unexpected conditional xml statement.

    Spellcast ^^

    Only problem I run into is on DRK I dont have enough room to cover all my frequently used weaponskills, absorbs, abilities etc in 20 macros so sometimes I need to hit spells from my menu.
    I use 1 macro book per job, and each slot inside that book for different subjobs.

    Other then that, on NIN/WAR I think I have...

    1. Ni
    2. Ichi
    3. Voke
    4. Zerk
    5. Warcry
    6. Jin
    7. Ku
    8. Kamu
    9. Empty
    10. Ranged Attack

    1-6. Ele tools
    7. Para
    8. Slow
    9. Blind
    10. Empty

    Thank you all terribly much for your input so far.

    Since I'm not using spellcast, do you think it'd be more efficient to place equipment changes in the /ja or /ma macro? I'm still of the school that goes equipment change macro > menu WS, for example.

    I think I will be looking into separate bars for time/day/mob type situations.. the last time I'd done that was I'd made a different bar for each sub I'd use for WAR, so I guess this is the same theory with different application.

    Now that there are so many books available to use, I have begun giving each /sub its own set of macros- nin/war, nin/drk, nin/rdm, nin/whm, nin/dnc, and if i ever got motivated, i'd make seperate day & night sets for each of the aforementioned subs.

    I'm in the same camp regarding Spellcast, even if not on NIN. I just prefer having more direct control over things.

    That being said, I do use macro gear changes in with actions. The macros I have for gear sets only are really for those not pertaining to a specific action. Things like WS gear are in the macro for WS.

    It too me a loooong time to convert to spellcast, but ive never looked back But strictly speaking without spellcast, yes, if you only need 5 lines, you can put your gearswaps in your casting/ability macro.

    Optionally, you can use the different macro bars for each situation. You can even have a gearswap macro to put on your basic gear, which you will copy from bar to bar, then in the ability/casting macro you can add in any other situational pieces you need.

    *edit - if you are using pc, you can always use a script macro through the windower console to do all your gearswaps and the ability. That way you arent limted to 6 lines.

    Example...excuse any odd gear choices this was my macro from a long time ago... (and you would have "/console exec ninws.txt" in your actual ffxi macro)

    ninws.txt
    input /equip "Ring1" "Flame Ring";
    input /equip "Ear2" "Pixie Earring";
    input /equip "Neck" "Soil Gorget";
    input /equip "Head" "Pln. Qalansuwa";
    input /equip "Body" "Kirin's Osode";
    input /equip "Waist" "Warwolf Belt";
    input /equip "Hands" "Nin. Tekko +1";
    input /equip "Feet" "Denali Gamashes";
    input /equip "Ear1" "Brutal Earring";
    input /equip "Ring2" "Rajas Ring";
    input /ws "Blade: Ku" <t>;
    wait 2;
    input /equip "Ring1" "Sniper's Ring";
    input /equip "Ear2" "Suppanomimi";
    input /equip "Neck" "Chivalrous Chain";
    input /equip "Body" "Koga Chainmail";
    input /equip "Head" "Walahra Turban";
    input /equip "Waist" "Koga Sarashi";
    input /equip "Feet" "Fuma Sune-Ate";
    input /equip "Ear1" "Brutal Earring";
    input /equip "Ring2" "Ulthalam's Ring";
    input /equip "Hands" "Dusk Gloves";

    What I do in that case is something like:

    /console exec ninws.txt << changes to my gear
    /ws "Blade: Lawlz" <t>
    /console exec nintp.txt << back to TP gear

    If you segment it like this, you can do almost every action you'd want to do, but you keep your gear sets standardized and easy to update.

    Yes on most jobs I used to do that, not sure why I did it this way on nin. Was just posting as an example.

    Brilliant. Operation: play with windower macros is go then. Again, thank you everyone for your imput.

    But the real question of how to make Blade: Ei even AWESOMER remains, as always, one of the eternal mysteries of existence.

    Just a note. On my example the first line...
    "ninws.txt" should not be in the actual text file, its just the name of the file. The file should be saved in your windower/scripts/ folder.

    I'm always worried that gear swap wont take effect if I have it at the beginning of my WS macro. Has it been tested?

    I've had it like that for years, and yes, it works. An easy way to test it would be to macro in Haste gear before casting a spell, cast it, and see what the recast is. If it's lower, tada!

    Or you can add a pause before the actual WS fires if you're really paranoid. >_>

    Anyways, I know the OP has been answered, by my NIN "sets" are as such:

    Merit TP
    WS
    TW-T Solo TP
    VT-ohgodwhyamifightingthis TP

    We don't use NIN/DRKs, so I don't have a set for it. I'm far too lazy to have a night/daytime macro, and I'd prefer WSing in AF+1 hands over Koga Tekko anyways.

    input /lockon seems pure sexy... anyone know a way to enable lockon after a spellcast action?

    Ex. Currently swap gear on jump, but the blinking removes lockon, etc.

    Something I've found extremely useful..

    Bind `, Alt`, and Ctrl` to gear sets. On all of my jobs, ` switches me into 'melee gear', or standing gear if I'm tanking, TP gear, whatever you wanna call it. Ctrl+` is WS gear, leading me very nicely into Ctrl+1 being WS of choice, and then just hit ` to go back. It may seem simple, but it frees up three locations, and its nice and easy to hit- for me

    I've set my ninja up with 2 sets of windower binds, one for night and one for day. Both of them have all my gear swaps setup on Alt-F1-w/e. That way I keep all my spells/jas on the regular macro line.

    Is the TP thing a common thing to do or no? Never occurred to me to do it that way, but it makes a lot of sense >.>
