    New MacBook Pro's and iPhone

    13" for 1,200
    15" for 1,700
    17" for 2,500
    Air for 1,500

Finally, 13" MBP's. Also don't have shitty Intel video adapters anymore. Looks like they are basically getting rid of regular MacBook line. Not sure what exactly is new with iPhone's though, never used one.

    Apple unveils new iPhone
Faster model slated to go on sale June 19. Current iPhone price drops to $99. Steve Jobs is a no-show at developers conference.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Apple on Monday unveiled a new, faster iPhone, lowered the price on its existing model to $99, and released details of its revamped operating system.

But Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) CEO Steve Jobs did not appear at the company's World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco, where the company presented its products.

Instead, Philip Schiller, the company's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, demonstrated the iPhone 3GS, which can perform tasks up to 3.6 times faster than the previous second-generation iPhone, the iPhone 3G.

Apple shares, which were down as much as $5.24 earlier, were $2.07 lower at $142.60 after the presentation.

The iPhone will come in three sizes and prices. The new phone will have a 16-gigabyte model for $199 and a 32-gigibyte version for $299.

Apple will continue to sell a second-generation iPhone 3G with 8 gigabytes of memory for $99 -- the cheapest price yet for the device.

The prices are subsidized by AT&T (T, Fortune 500), the exclusive wireless carrier for the phone, for customers signing new contracts.

The new phone also comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera with video capturing and editing capabilities, improved battery life with 5 hours of talk time and 30 hours of audio, voice command control by holding down the home button, and a built-in digital compass.

Snow Leopard: Apple said the new operating system, Snow Leopard, will be available in September and can perform some tasks up to 90% faster than its current Leopard OS. Apple said Snow Leopard is more crash resistant than its predecessor and is 6 gigibytes smaller.

Rival Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) has said its new Windows 7 operating system will be unveiled in October.

Snow Leopard will cost $29 to upgrade from Leopard, which is $100 less than the previous upgrade price.

Apple also unveiled a new, faster Safari Web browser. Safari 4 can track changes in many of the most frequently visited Web sites, and uses the iTunes "cover flow" interaction to scan through browser history.

The company redesigned its Quicktime video viewer and editor, giving users the ability to share video on YouTube, MobileMe or iTunes, which enables playback on the iPhone.

IPhone OS: Apple demonstrated its new operating system for the iPhone, days after after competitor Palm (PALM) launched its much ballyhooed Pre phone.

The new iPhone OS 3.0, which was first unveiled in March, will have cut, copy and paste capabilities for all applications, which iPhone users have long demanded. The operating system will also feature an undo gesture, which will undo the last action by shaking the phone.

Fully integrated search, multimedia text messages and auto-fill for passwords have also been added to the iPhone, though the multimedia text messaging will not be available on AT&T (T, Fortune 500) until later in the summer.

The new OS will allow users to rent and purchase movies right from their phones using iTunes, and it will have parental control functionality.

Some analysts also expect Apple to unveil a new, lower-priced iPhone.

New MacBooks: The new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros will both showcase a 3.06 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, the fastest processor Apple has ever used.

Like the larger 17-inch MacBook Pro, the 15-inch will also feature a new lithium battery that gets up to seven hours of battery life and three times the recharges of most laptops.

The company announced the MacBook air will cost $1,499, a $700 price cut. A 13-inch MacBook Pro will cost $100 less at $1,199, and the the 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pros will be $300 less expensive at $1,699 and $2,499, respectively.

Jobs, who has been on leave because of illness, is expected to return to work at the end of the month.

They have been off Intel video adapters since the first iteration of this line of Macbook Pro ~6months ago. I feel they have just been getting greedier and greedier last few years w/ releasing half finished hardware to the market then updating them every 6 months-1year with some minor change, battery/screen/sd reader for MBP, and iPhone in general is just the perfect example of this from the first one released 2 years ago. Or new iPod nano/classic/shuffles yearly(not touch but expect an upgrade of that before Christmas) Gonna be cute if in another 6 months they release an MBP with bluray capability or something like that.

Yeah, they have a rather short product cycle for their laptop computers but I'm still using my good old MBP, will probably stick to it a couple more years. Their updates are tempting but definitely don't justify an "upgrade". I am actually still using my 14~ year old IBM Thinkpad for documents, etc.

13" MBP is a step to the right direction though. Its a not-sooooooo-expensive mac without shitty specs. Will definitely attract some new customers.

Edit: And they FINALLY added a fucking SD-Card slot.

I want the new iPhone 3G S... looks hot & the 3G battery currently sucks. Wonder how much faster it is though cause I doubt it's as much faster as they flaunted at the convention

Fuck yeah. Was willing to shell out $119 for it even though it's primarily a 64-bit only optimized version of Leopard.

The 6gb of crap removed is likely all the extra driver support required though. For instance, Leopard's install disc comes packed with 3gb of just printer drivers alone.

Edit: And they FINALLY added a fucking SD-Card slot.
I have to be the only person I know that actually brings a USB card-reader around with my MacBook Pro in its carrying case, not sure why it's such a big deal, especially when there's usually just the bare-minimum SD/MemoryStick Pro supported, where-as some of us still need Compact Flash.

Snow Leopard upgrade is awesome, yeah.
SD-Card isn't a huge deal for me as well since I simply plug in my express card reader(which I had to pay 40~ bucks), and it stays there forever. Its just that they should be standard by now, every single laptop out there has one.

Have to pay $799 to get the 32gig iphone if you bought a 3G at launch. Not going to buy one until the contract is over I guess...

So glad I waited instead of getting the 2nd Gen 3G, luckily I bought my phone at the launch so my contract will be up this summer. I can't say that I am 100% happy with apple because my first iphone had a dead pixel and I had to jump thru so many hoops to get it replaced. AT&T told me to contact Apple store, and Apple Store told me to contact AT&T where I got my phone. Finally got it replaced but it's jailbroken with the old Community Tools Aps and Installers.

6 months after buying it and being told by Apple store "yea this will last ya for a few years no worries" they announce this today. Peeved -.- Don't wanna pay $499 to get a new phone to get all the new features and video. At least they're giving the 3G users the chance to send and receive multimedia messages without having to visit a website to download them.

sigh bought my iphone 3g around 7months ago... guess I gotta wait till 2010 for a new phone. At least we get OS3.0

I've heard rumors from decent sources that Verizon is going to get the iPhone. If this happens, I'm paying the money to cancel my AT&T contract (150$ ish i think) and hopping back on my verizon plan. Should be this year.

edit: would wait to buy until jailbreak is out

That would be cool if they finally got another provider to carry iphones. I've been trying to talk myself into one for a bit now...

I upgraded to an iPhone 3G 16gb like...3 months ago but I'm not irritated. I love everything about it, only thing I really wanted was MMS & Copy/Paste. It's slightly frustrating to see a newer model for the price I paid, but frankly I don't play many games on my phone (Hi2U DS & PSP) and I haven't ran the battery out. I usually keep a car charger in the car anyway so it's not a big deal and I'm usually at a PC with it charging. I'm more interested in another carrier getting the iPhone in the US because I'd leave my AT&T plan, lol.

I'm stoked about this, going to finally get an Iphone.

Only downer is I was eligible for an upgrade in April, was going to get an Iphone then but waited for new one to come out. Now AT&T is saying They'll give the me "privilege" of purchasing a new Iphone for $499 when it comes out, or wait till September

    Not really.

Cancel your contract, jailbreak and sell your 3G iphone for $200-$300....... selling the 3G will cover your ETF, then sign up as a new user and purchase cheaper 3Gs?

    That would work, right? lol

Not if you want to keep your phone number.

    Well then...

I guess the question is, "Is your phone number worth a $300-$400 difference on a new phone?" lol
