    Parry Skillup

I've been wanting to do this now for a little while and I've finally got bored enough to go do it. I've tried searching the forums for other threads but found very little to no information that would help me on where I currently am in my skilling up.

Skill is at 230.9 and I'm at Steelshells in Boyahda Tree with a 42% damage reduction set on SAM, Parrying Torque, Boxers Mantle, is all I could find with Parrying skill on it, and I've been beating this poor crab over the head with an earth staff for a little over an hour now, taking between 20~60 damage a hit, 80 when crits. Would anyone be able to suggest a better mob to be skilling up on? or am I doomed to beat crabs for hours on end with this staff

I can attest to this. It's still slow going, though.

I seem to remember meriting and skilling up my parrying off the Colibri also. Really really good gains off of those.

I just do FOV sky on for dolls on nin. Can get good skill up, 244 now. Although its slow but since I can get FOV points and merits at the same time, don't really care too much about parry.

I Duo SC, BB and Despot with an RDM and I notice I parry alot in the process of getting the mobs to pop or getting to the spot to pop the mob like BB, and I've yet to see any skill come of it

Korrigan are awesome parrying, shield, and evasion skill up. Some close of friends of mines has done these types of mobs with ninja/dancer. I am not sure your survival with sam/dancer against these monk types of mobs. However, they are wonderful on capping your evasion, shield, and parrying skill.

However, others may not agree with this.

I was going to say Korrigans and Pucks(Den of Rancor), basically any High level Mandragora ... i use them for Shield Skill ups.

However they might be uh, a little harder?

lol I tried SAM vs Korrigane I ended up warping out because it was to much of a hastle to handle with TP/Cure ratio was horrible and I couldn't keep up. looks like that'd have to be done with NIN or atleast attempted.

in my salvage set I try to run with 6 people and usually have a MNK main tank but I guess I could take over on NIN for that and have him come something else or be back up tank. but other then that I usually go to Salvage with my LS and they take however many people are interested in the event which gets a bit crazy sometimes.

I took fed signet staff and parried against Om-yovras for like 50 hours on NIN. Load up on haste gear of course. Did this at nighttime so I could run when in trouble. Averaged around 0.5 per hour. Super monotonous but gets the job done. Load up on AGI, but not on parrying skill. No TP attacks because you're hitting for 0. Oh and you'll using around 100 shihei per 30 minute session. My old data sessions are still on allak somewhere.

This trick could probably work on THF too with Strider's Boots

Should be in sky until 235, then move on to a lot of different things from there.

If you have access to a RDM account/friend that can help.

-stack all the DEF and PDT gear where you can, def food. I'd use arhat body head, earth staff, boxers or cerb mantle, parry torque, earring, bibiki seashell, loquacious earring ( to not be interrupeted on cocoon), DEF or HP rings warwolf belt byako's haidate and suzaku sune-ate. You're looking at 750+DEF here and 40%ish PDT.

-sub blu for cocoon ( just need lv 8 ).

    -signet.

-RDM does phalanx II (preferably lv 3+), protect and cures.

Since you are 230+, chigoes will no longer skill you up (cap 230ish). So go to Den Of rancor, aggro 3 pucks, even matches/decent chalenge if possible ( you will not get signet def bonus on lv 76 ones), and engage an opo-opo far away while having the pucks in front of you. stand there for several hours... if you do not have rdm well just take one puck you should still last a few minutes against it.

You Should take 0-5 dmg per hit at most, and sam is the job that skills parry the fastest from expereince, compared to nin and thf. I was geting 4-5 full skills per hours on thf, should be more on sam really. The hard part is to keep cocoon up and not be interrupted, have to time it right, and I couldn't keep it up with 4 pucks on me, too bad. if your rdm has autorefresh+3 ( /smn, chap body), and since sam can use more PDT gear than THF, you can probably have more than 3 pucks on you actually idk... the more pucks the fastest skill ups.

It's the fastest way I know, it works for shield and guard as well.

Edit: pic below of how I did it for guard. Mobs hit for 0-20 instead of 0-5 because you cannot guard with earth staff.

the only time my parring skilled up after 260 was on Tiamat. but i ended up getting it to 269 from solo tanking Jailors all day on neenjer.

thats pretty how much how i went from 210-cap in about w/o actually trying to make an attempt for that specific skill for more than 30 min. i just tank in merit ptys on sam since i like to voke anyways, and i just tank shit on nin.

When i skilled my parrying at your level, i used the black mandies in boyahda. Pull like 4 max, this requires you to have a rdm account to help cure/phalanx II though. After you get around close to 250, go to Den of Rancor and pull 2 pucks.

Basically, if you don't have access to a rdm account or a rdm friend to help you, i would say it is not worth the time. Dinged my parrying a few months ago and went to cap guard, stop at around 165 feeling depressed lol

Honestly, this is the most practical advice. From 230-245 up until cap, your best chance of skillups are tanking NMs and events.

The method mdkuser described is how I capped out and it worked like a charm. I went from about 180 to 269 in about ten 2-3 hour sessions. I used the Chigoes that pop from Marids until about 220, then Pucks until cap. If you do use this technique, remember not to have your healer rest near the Pucks though or they will aggro.

Went from 220->269 with a RDM + WHM @ Den of Rancor.

Map -> Den of Rancor/Maps - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more

pull puks from J-7 AND i-9. 8 total hold them at the bridge at H-9 and engage a mob below.

I did it on SAM b/c of less natural evasion than Ninja but should be all -PDT gear(Arhat+1,earth staff, jelly ring etc. I used sub /WAR with defender because /BLU cocoon would always get interuppted.

Must haves are 5/5 Phalanx 2 on the RDM.

With food and defender and tect4 up i took 0 damage except from crits. and with 8 mandies on me, the skillups came fast.

Luckyily I have a RDM to dual box and a WHM friend wanted to get some skillups. Took about 10 min per level, (this was 1 1/2 year ago) the skillups may come faster now with the update.
