    Samsung LCD TV flicker problem

I've got a samsung TV, 2 years old, and it starts flickering like crazy after a few minutes of being on. The flickering will last a few minutes before the picture just goes out completely (sound remains) and I have to turn it off and back on to get the picture back. Its not a source problem; the flicker happens on every video source i have plugged in and even with the content the TV has built in (some van gough artwork i think).

I noticed this a few months ago, and its gotten progressively worse and now i have to keep the backlight on 0 to avoid the flickering... yes, im watching TV with backlight on zero!

Anyone know what the problem could be? Anyone with a similar issue?

I'm not completely sure what you meant by source, you mean each input?

If happening with cable, did you try watching a DVD / Blu-ray / or playing a game? Does it happen on all of those?

    Also post your TV model.

I'm not experienced with fixing TV's really at all, but I would venture to say it sounds like there is an issue with some of the back bulbs either burnt out or on their way out. Its not supposed to happen for like 10-15 years of continuous (24hr) tv watching, but it does happen from time to time with bulbs. I could also be totally wrong, but that's my slightly educated guess.

Worst case scenario, it's usually not very cost effective to have a TV fixed. Did you happen to get an extended warranty when you bought it from the retailer? If not, you're probably better off just getting a new unit rather than paying 200-500 to fix a 2 year old tv.

Militant, do you think that could happen in 2 years if someone was an idiot and kept the backlight on 9 or 10 (out of 10) all the time and kept the picture setting on Dynamic? I was stupid and always kept the backlight high because there is so much ambient light in my home. And on top of that the TV would be on for about 12 hours a day atleast. Also, no extended warranty (lesson learned) and 200 - 500 might not be TOO bad... TV cost me ~1600 2 years ago.

Yes Mafai, you're right I meant to say input. The flicker happens on every input regardless of picture setting (Dynamic/Standard/Natural/Movie). BTW its a Samsung 40 inch, LN40B750.
