    Sneaking Boots... Sneak Time?

Wondering if anyone has these and can share what the Duration of the Sneak effect is?

With the ridiculous recast of 1 hr, I was hoping to hear these are at least useful for sneaking over long distances.

I'm thinking the only way these are worth it is if the Sneak effect is significantly greater than a Silent Oil or Sneak spell... as the opportunity cost for these in terms of Imperial Gold Pieces on my server is ~80k atm.

I'm sure the high price and recast are relevant to the Stealth effect, I'm pretty sure sneak is as random as the spell or oil.

they will enhance sneak oils to about 1-2 minutes over normal time, rarely do they last less than 3 minutes, the enchantment is basically just a sneak oil in comparison, Ive had the oils with boots on last as long as 8 minutes on a good day (as rng/nin)

Too bad they don't make it so that a silent oil or the sneak spell lets you walk past true sound mobs. Now that would own.

I thought that the stealth job trait made mobs stop aggroing you a few levels early.

If "enhances 'stealth'" actually adjusts that number significantly there are some applications/areas where they could be very useful.

For example, if it raises it 2-3 levels you could wander around in the knight crawler areas of CN without aggro. If it raised it by 7-8 levels you could wander around in the upper levels of the 'old' beastmen strong holds without aggro. etc.

How do the boots enhance silent oils? It just has "enhances 'Stealth' effect" and then the "Enchantment: Sneak", right?

I thought Stealth slightly reduced the aggro radius, or increased the reaction time of mobs to detect you?

I was well under the impression the Stealth trait lowered your potential aggro range.

IDK, I guess it's easy enough to test.

If it's 'reduce radius' then the sneaking boots could still be potentially very useful for avoiding aggro, especially around truesound and truesight mobs.

And safer casting in magic aggro areas.

Stealth definitely reduces aggro range. I've run through Ro'Maeve countless times on NIN with no oils, just MGSing it and never aggroing. When it's rain weather, I can be inches away from a weapon and not get aggro, so this further adds to it.

I always try to MGS around the weapons in RoMaeve as well. I've definitely noticed a difference between /WAR and /NIN when doing that. Weapons already have a pretty small aggro radius but with Stealth you can practically walk up and make out with them.

Stealth only reduces the chance of being detected by sight or sound.

A few days ago I was soloing imps at hediva(sp?) isle as blu/nin, and I accidentally walked THROUGH a soulflayer(true sound) on the way back from a pull when I was on the phone, and didn't catch aggro. Could have been lag on my side or something, but it might lend itself to stealth just giving a random chance to avoid detection.

reduces the chance, by reducing the range, lol

its possible that it just repopped too, things take a little bit to start aggroing when they spawn

I know, I was responding to the comment about it making it safer to cast in magic aggro areas.

i am pretty certain soulflayers are true sight only.. and they have an extremely small agro distance to begin with... you have to try really hard to get aggro lol

Nah it's sound, and it's a really small aggro circle. I've walked behind them and got "Soulflayer starts casting Freeze/Flood" a number of times, just to test to make sure the wiki was wrong before I fixed it. I like that they also aggro job abilities, it keeps the asshole summoners out of my camp. 8)

I can confirm they're truesound. I remember walking behind one (almost touching the thing) to test and almost dying (this was when BLUs needed to kill them so one of the parties camping them took them). Then I tested magic aggro (it was pretty wide if I remember) and another soulflayer party took it.

Speaking of magic aggro, I once had an idea of "truemagic aggro" where it's a big aggro distance like most spellcasting detection but you don't need to cast magic to get aggro, since I remember the first gargoyle in 50cap Pso'Xja (after being unclaimed) and the Snoll Tzar had huge aggro ranges.
