    FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Sep. 21)

    At the following time, we performed a version update of FINAL FANTASY XI.

    Sep. 21, 2007 12:00 (PDT)

    FINAL FANTASY XI

    [Important Update Details]
    - Temporarily removed an NPC named Varchet in Southern San d'Oria.

    Improper use of the game was found to be possible through the use of this NPC. Removal of the NPC is a temporary measure against this issue. Due to this action, players will be unable to advance in the quest "Exit the Gambler."

    * After counter measures are enacted, we plan on putting the NPC Varchet back into the game.

    and add the welcome back campaign stuff? yeah... and it might take a while to write the code or w/e i dont think its as simple as Copy and Paste lol

    As you might have noticed, every maintenance is at least 2hours long, so it is safe to assume they need the 2 hours to shutdown servers, update files on all machines, reboot the system and run an automatic test before you are able to log in.

    Odd part is that the NPC was already removed before the maint started. There was a moogle who said something along the lines of "Varchet has a tummy ache, he'll be back soon."

    I think RMT were abusing it by gambling endlessly, creating gil each time they won, flooding the economy. Sure, it's only 5 gil at a time, but RMT do it 24/7 with multiple characters.

    So obviously that wouldn't be the real reason. Guess they're counting on people to not have noticed the moogle? Yeah, cause moogles in places there weren't moogles before don't attract attention at all.

    They don't normally announce when they fix the shit people hack and break. I would assume they ninja'd it but who knows.
