Salvage Glitch / GM helpfullness -.-

Has anyone else experienced a glitchy salvage entrance?

We entered SS - popped the chest - and no cells were inside. Nothing was inside actually. Nothing happened in the chatlog and we got no teasure. No one was on quartermaster. We all checked our inventory - and one of the MNK in the party had two cells in his inventory. Everyone knows you cant enter salvage with cells in your inventory, so it somehow glitched and allowed him to, or he somehow ended up with two cells... I called a GM and they were pretty unhelpfull. They suggested I get online and see what -we- were doing wrong. -_-

    Does SE outsource their GM's?

    Srsly.

This has happened before. A few days ago someone made a thread about it.

I failed at spelling stereotypes :bagel:

Eh, GMs can't really do much. It's not that they don't, it's that they can't.

Unfortunately this is true in your situation. The game borked, maybe because of a timing issue or some small glitch in the programming that was never debugged properly. Really though, there is nothing a GM can do about it.

I, too, would rather they just be honest and admit that, instead of telling you that you fucked up and to go online and read what they don't know.

It's just a way of stating they are getting a shot in on a joke first before anyone [usually a flood] of people roll in and get their shots in.

EX: Lordender says "lolgm", then few mins or hrs later random ppl come in with "GMs are stupid," "lolGM," "wut," "Holy crap this happened to me as well, GMs did nothing," "GMs can't really do anything, lol," and so on with many different variations.

"In before the lock" is usually akin to someone posting (joke or no joke) just before a mod locks the topic due to it's stupidity/offtopicness/etc.

[Gm]Smaragdinus isn't outsourced and none of the GMs are. Not only does this particular GM play FFXI on a regular basis but he rarely logs out with like over 700 of days of playtime. If there's a glitch in the game, a GM will file a report about it and will insist you do the same. The bug report form is very very precise and can help developers pinpoint the problem you had.

Was your monk able to use the cells he had? (If so, this could be a potential exploit. SJ cells in arrapago comes to mind) If this could be duplicated and exploited this could pose a problem so I'm sure the developers would address it right away. Fill out a bug report and hope for the best. Before every run I make sure everyone double checks that they have no cells just so I don't get the "someone in your party isn't ready" message.

The fact that you entered with cells and nothing dropped out of the chest will show up in the logs. You can't expect FFXI to always be 100% bug free especially considered this is the first time I can think of anyone having this happen to them in the thousands of salvage runs that have occurred. GMs can't interfere with game mechanics nor can they have any affect on your ability to re enter salvage. They also can't manifest cells because item creation is a very tedious process that gets authorized and done further up the chain than just [GM]. He has the same ability to fix your problem as my Automaton on Odin server.

At any rate, I think SE should give GMs the ability to reset certain flags (such as the ability to acquire a new permit for that day and perhaps recover your 1500 AP) but something like this happening is simply so very rare that they don't see the need for it.

"Unfortunally I do not know enough about salvage to answer any specific questions."

Do they not freaking screen these GM calls so the best people to answer a topic can take them?

I don't even know why people bother calling GMs anymore.

Shitty glitch though... Salvage has been extremely buggy as of late...

Extremely is an extreme exaggeration. If the first chest spawned Fafnir and raped face, that would be extreme. A single glitch in a chest out of how many runs people do in a day? Thats just a "shitty glitch" as you put it. But hey, thats how people used to do it.

I have only seen two glitches in Salvage, and both had to do with entry. One time, everyone had zoned in, and we could see everyone but one of the people couldn't see the first door as open and couldn't target it to get through. They had to log out then log back in and the door was open. The second time, everyone zoned in but couldn't see anyone else or open the door. After about 30 seconds everyone started popping up on for everyone else and the door was targetable. I blame both on lag.

At least the GM was being honest about the situation.

I've had that door lag before. One member was really lagging and didn't see the boss-floor door as being open and had to relog.

I'm just going by what several members in my Salvage LS told me. They'd had several issues with LBC lately. (Glitchy chariots are an extreme to me :3) I've been inactive due to this whole hacking ordeal so I don't know the exact details, but on a few instances LBC has been doing whatever it pleases, regardless of how many gears were killed.

If a GM cannot help, you are always afforded the option of requesting that your call be escalated to an SGM. They do have the ability to effect minor changes.

the first issue you had is actually a bug-recovery "feature" of the client, and something that occurs with all the instanced zones apparently (I've had it happen once or twice with 'evade and escape' - it's more amusing when it isn't a door but just a wall in space) if your client fails to load the zone glitch free, it won't let you go past a small starting area. relogging fixes the problem 99% of the time. It's most likely lag related yeah.

the only issue I've personally witnessed with salvage was the problems hades had a couple months ago where -all- of our timed content was kicking out 5 minutes early. (and that's not really a salvage bug, hah)
