Scariest Games You've Played?

Another genre favourite of mine is Survival Horror. Back in the days one of my good friends lent me RE: Director's Cut for the PS1. Needless to say, it scared the shit out of me. Ever since then I've play various Survival Horror games. The one that stands out the most is the Silent Hill series. Its great atmosphere gets a hold of the gamer and won't let go. Furthermore, I think physiological horror has a greater impact on gamers than say the shock factor RE has (it lost it w/ RE:4). Another great series is "Fatal Frame." Again, it relies heavily on atmosphere and FPS in-your-face scares.

I can go on an on but I want to hear you guys too ;o So what are your favourite horror titles?

Voted Silent Hill, but I will say... licker jumping through the one-way mirror in Resident Evil 2 still gets me every time.

Silent Hill is the scariest for me (Fatal Frame comes close though), but I have the most fun playing Resident Evil even though it's not nearly as scary.

Yes this too XD. I played it with my 7 year old niece the other day. The Elevator scene(s) where the lights flash (people who played it might know what Im talking about) had her running out of the room LOL

I voted other because RE2 is the scariest game I ever played. Followed by Half Life 2 (I know its not survival horror but the town with all the crows as well as other parts really freaked me out)

When I was playing RE2 there was a huge storm at my house and all the roads got washed out and the power was out. I was in highschool at the time and was stuck at home with no way to go to school. We had a generator that was big enough to just power up my tv and playstation. I was playing the game in the dark by myself with a huge storm raging outside. Was very atmospheric and scary.

Call of Cthulhu for the PC was one hell of a brickshitting game for the first half. Unfortunately Bethesda didn't know the machine gun = fearless formula. Still, the first half was just nightmare.

Silent Hill for me. It's the only game series that gets me tense where everything is quiet in a particular room............and nothing actually happens.

Survival Horror games just aren't what they used to be once you start thinking that things are more startling than scary

No Condemned? Not a single mention? Both of the games are awesome by the way, despite the criticisms (some of which are valid) lobbied against the second one. More people need to play them, especially if you're going to mention stuff like "F.E.A.R.", considering that they're both made by Monolith Productions.

Condemned is a lot gorier than pretty much everything mentioned in here (especially RE).
