    Concealed Handgun License

Recently there have been an alarming amount of break-ins at my apartment and the surrounding areas. Recently a friend of a friend was held at gunpoint by 3 people who made of with all his electronics and such.

So, I've been debating getting a handgun since loading my Winchester everytime is going to take too long to be very effective. I've been looking at a 10mm, G20 or G29.

How many BGers have their CHL/CCW/etc and what do you carry?

I have my concealed carry permit and switch between a Keltec .32(10+1), Springfield XD .45 ACP(13+1) and a Smith and Wesson 9MM (16+1). But if you're looking for something to carry and forget it as a just in case type of deal, I'd go with a revolver, since it'll never jam. Capacity is largely irrelevant since it'll generally only take one or two shots to put whatever is happening to a stop.

Home defense is best served with a shotgun 12 gauge or 20 in #4 buckshot or better(lower number). Glock 20's are rough to handle for some people. 10mm was used by the FBI until they realized not everyone could shoot it. 9mm is a fine round in a +p loading and is cheap to practice with.

Comment on the OP: Don't let fear rule your life and make you think you need a gun. Get one if you want one, but don't arm yourself out of fear.

I'd get a samurai sword instead.

I got my CCL just for the fact that it allows my to drive with ammo and guns together in the trunk of my car.

On the rare occasion I do carry, it's with my Sig228.

I personally don't like glocks, just based on looks. And I really don't like 10mm or .40. They got a "snappier" recoil, takes some getting used to.

Just remember that if you pull it out you better be ready to pull the trigger.

I grew up with a gun in my hand, practically. Growing up in Northern Michigan, my grandparents and uncles did a lot of hunting. We had plenty of land, so Gramps would always take me out to let me squeeze off a few rounds. He had a wide variety of guns; rifles, pistols, revolvers, shotgun, some antiques and all that. I could load a black powder rifle by the time I was 5. I remember Gramps getting a Colt Delta Elite when I was about 10. From that point on, i fell in love with 10mm.

I have been thinking about getting a handgun for quite sometime, but this somewhat helped me make it more justifiable to the wife. She wants a .380 now lol.

I do, it sits next to my Winchester 30-30 lever action.

The Glocks i've had the chance to shoot have just felt really good in my hand. I'd like to get a USP or HK, but that's a little more than I want to spend. I remember the kick of the 10, that's for sure. They're just damn sexy for some reason.

Would never pull it for any other reason. I come from a long line of gun fanatics. I was raised with guns, and safety and how to handle them.

I've had a CCL (concealed carry license) for a few years now. My standard carry weapon is a revolver chambered for .38 S&W Special +P.

It is an aluminum frame so is very lightweight. However, I'm looking into getting a Seecamp LWS380

It is a much smaller/lighter weapon.

.380 sucks, low powered, expensive, and hard to find good ammo if any at all right now. go with a small 9mm.

Hmmm.. I'll keep that in mind. She had a .380 when she was younger, and gave it to her ex-husband to just get him out of her life. For some reason she just loves them. Maybe a good compact 9mm will sway her.

    I use a compact Springfield XD, it's nice. Or a 5 shot .357 magnum.

because a box of ammo will cost you $60 and no jury in the world will think that it would be used justifiably in a defense situation.

I wouldn't mind adding a shotgun to my fledgling gun collection, and will eventually. I'm set on a handgun for the moment. Would also be useful if I continue down the PI/Security path.

Actually, OP is from Texas, so uh...yeah, he'd likely be just fine.

I don't really understand why you are asking for a concealed, outside the house weapon for a home defense situation. A good reliable pump like a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870, or a Saiga 12 if you don't mind the increase in price, would probably serve better defending the house than a pistol would. However, if you are married to the idea of getting a handgun and the 10mm round I think the Witness by Tangfaglio (based on the CZ-75) would also be a good choice although I'm not sure how compact they come in comparison to the Glock models for carrying around all day. Make sure that you get something with night sights or have night sights available aftermarket.
