HDMI Capture Cards/Tuner Recommendations

So I'm looking for a substitute for renting a DVR from my cable for an additional $15 a month because fuck my cable company. I thought getting an HDMI capture card would do the trick.

I foolishly took some initiative, did little research, and bought this lulzy thing. After about an hour of troubleshooting, the thing can't even do what it says it does (capture and stream gaming video!!!1): When I tried to record video from my PS3, it says that it's an HDCP signal and cannot record it.

Great excuse for returning a product and getting a refund, but it still leaves me back at my original issue.

So I'm looking for HDMI capture card/recorder recommendations. The goal is to basically turn my computer into a DVR.

My setup right now is cable box -> receiver -> tv, if it matters.

Hrm. Interesting. That'll certainly strip any HDCP protection which will inevitably save lots of hassle. I guess it begs the question if HDMI->DVI adapters are better than actual HDMI->DVI cords.

Still going to need an actual card for my computer though.
