[BG Medical] Should I be worried?

So last night I was drinking... and I drank a bit too much. I ended up puking in the bathroom at this club... Normally I am fine with this except for the fact that I puked blood....

I had three major upheavals, the first was reddish in color, the second was dark red and then the last one was almost a very very dark red color.

I was a little light headed this morning but that is more likely from the alcohol consumption more than anything.

I was able to keep down a cheese quesadilla this morning for breakfast with guacamole and sour cream. I also drank a juice from Jamba Juice to get some vitamins in me...

Only symptom left is that I have a pain in my chest around where I would assume that the middle of my esophagus is. While I can swallow and eat, there is some pain involved while doing it in that same spot. Other than that, my head is fine... no blood in my urine.

    Any Ideas? Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance /bg/ !

Uh, I think any time blood is coming from somewhere it normally shouldn't you should be worried. I would talk to a doctor, and lay off the alcohol for a while.

Maybe you have an ulcer, since drinking would make you throw up like that. Happens every time I drink alcohol. Any blood in your stool as well?

If so, quesadilla was a very bad choice.

Actually if you were bleeding from your stomach it would have the appearance of coffee grinds when thrown up. When blood mixes with stomach acid it makes that combination. If it was a little blood it's possible you just irritated your throat lining, if it's a lot, it's probably just whatever you had mixing with the food and making that color. Regardless, if it keeps up, see a doctor.

It really can go anyway. I lose blood on a daily bases and it ranges from a bright red, to a dark red / almost brownish color.

How often do you drink? A vein can swell due to the sheer amount of alcohol you were drinking and burst, but I think it's more common with people that drink lots over long periods of time.

puking =/= "a bit too much" alcohol

Get your head examined. And retake math to learn what 'a bit' means.

That's not necessarily true, some people are more or less sensitive than others

Probably damaged the lining of your esophagus from either the liquor or just the retching, worst case you have an esophageal ulcer. Pain in your chest is probably heartburn, I used to get it all the time when I drank too much.

If it happens again, or if you have a history of reflux or heartburn, see a gastroenterologist. I had a similar problem, did an upper GI, they found an ulcer in my esophagus. Been on Prilosec for a few months now.

Most importantly, stop drinking, and if you want it to heal, it's gonna be awhile.

If there was any dry heaving involved, it could potentially be a Mallory-Weiss tear. If retching was not involved, more likely than not it is a duodenal/gastric ulcer. Esophageal varices (the burst veins in your throat) are a direct result of a cirrhotic liver, so unless you're 50 and bright yellow, you're probably fine. Either way, not particularly life threatening, although you may want to mention it to a doctor next time you have a chance.

What were you drinking? Sometimes the types of drinks can be misleading. It is very rare for you to be puking blood and for it to remain in its bright red color. However, depending on the drink it can make it seem like a bright red color.

What's your diet? Do you eat a lot of oily or spicy food? What type of alcohol were you drinking?

The last paragraph you wrote reeks of acid reflux syndrome. You probably wore the lining of your esophagus, and when the acid came up it made the lining very tender. Stick to liquids until the pain goes away. Don't try to tank food or you may damage it completely. Also, go see a physician if you start coughing up blood or your throat starts to feel itchy and/or swollen.

It really sounds like an ulceration. Too much alcohol can really fuck your stomach AND your esophagus up. Depending on what you drank, that alcohol is going to burn on the way up because the stomach acid wore out the lining. Alcohol + exposed tissue = NOT good.
