Hdmi Cable Question

I know a lot of people say that cables are all the same since the signal is digital, however I tried a different cable I ordered and it seems its much darker, as in the gamma is less using one cable than the other. Does it vary between cables, or is my darker cable just a defect? Curious about this, not that it has any really adverse affects (other than having to adjust your tv for the new cable)

Odd that it would be different. I'm pretty sure any of the cables in this generation are "all or nothing" type. Can't really say if cables have any differences, I've had no problems with the ones I've ordered.

I'd say it's a defect too. Try returning it for the same cable and see if you get duplicate results

Read reviews before buying! Sometimes those defects are "features" with crappy cables, not exclusive to HDMI.

I've been using a $5.00+shipping HDMI cable and it works perfectly. There's no difference between this and DVI-D cable that i was using.

Defective cable might be causing gamma level data to be passed through incorrectly (HDMI and DVI support gamma adjustment)

Personally I find automatic gamma adjustment highly irritating because as with anything that's automatic it can be wrong.

Also, HDMI is a shit connector. They should have used something similar to DVI. Or better yet, just use DVI.

Oh I was just curious, it just seems some cables (have an old one I got from gamestop a few years ago that is brighter than the other), just had more come in and they seem to be the same darkness as the other cable. I have cables out the ass, as I just got a 15' + 3 6' hdmi for like $6 shipped in a combo deal.

I've gotten in the habit of getting a couple extra cables any time I order them now. Originally this was to have backups if one went bad or I got a new device to hook up. However, now whenever I hear someone bitching about the cost of HDMI cables, I offer to sell them one for $10 -$20 (depending on how much I like them). This has more than paid for the cables I have.

Monoprice was more expensive than the cables I got lol. I think they wanted the same price as all the cables just for the 15'.

You mean lolawesomeport? HDMI is exactly the same as DVI, it just also carries sound. DP is the successor to DVI though, much like DVI was to VGA.

Find someone that works @ a retail store like Best Buy and get them to buy it. Can get a 6' HDMI cable for $5 or less.
