    Bad HDMI Cables?

Purchased a Sony Bravia XBR7 40" like i posted in the other thread. Got it today was messing with settings on my PS3. Set it to 1080p then this red fuzzy shit happens all over the screen.

    http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y97...uxx/cable2.jpg

IT only happens when under 1080p when i switched ps3 to output 1080i was perfectly fine

This is 1080p playing MW2 while aiming through a scope you can see it.

I bought like $4 HDMI cables off amazon. Because i was mad short on cash but i needed cables ASAP. So im pretty sure its the cables.

Cellphone camera sorry for shitty quality.

I thought monoprice.com was the place everyone bought all their cables from? As far as I'm aware, that's the best place in the US to get cheap (good) cables online.

You must be using those cardboard HDMI cables.

idk im not to informed on the difference on 1080p vs 1080i. Dont know why it would support one but not the other.

If it didn't support it, it wouldn't display at all.

1080i means the refresh is interlaced, which means lines are refreshed in an alternating fashion.

1080p is progressive. Everything is refreshed at once.

Your HDMI cables may not support HDMI 1.3 and your PS3 might be sending out an HDMI 1.3 signal.

    HDMI transmits a Digital Signal.

As such, the signal is either there or it isn't. The problem shouldn't be the cable. If there was a problem, you would have no picture at all.

I would mess around with the TV settings a bit to see if you can correct the problem there.

Been doing some reading up about this and it seems like this is caused by HDMI cables that are not properly shielded and it causes signal interference.

    You'd think that...

But the noise he's seeing is an HDMI issue. I've had flickering due to an HDMI cable as well (intermittent, but still very annoying). Problems with HDMI cables are actually relatively common.

Have you tried any other HDMI slots on your TV?

This sounds like handshake issue though. Can google it to find out more info. TV and PS3 just doesn't get along at 1080p mode.

A solution thats been known to work is to buy component cables to play your games in 1080p.

Flickering is a possibility. That is signal loss though, albeit a very quick signal loss. Insufficient shielding can lead to flicker.

If the problem is shielding it's very easy to check. Wrap the cable in a aluminum foil, you don't need a thick layer, just make sure you can't see the cable jacket. If the problem is fixed, it is the shielding.

But again, flickering is usually a sign of a shielding problem. That red shit on the side of the screen doesn't coincide with any cable problem that I have seen.

No i haven't. I only stumbled onto this because i had realized i never changed my resolution from my 22in monitor for the 40in @ 3am when i couldn't sleep. So i ran straight to here without really tinkering with it. I did check to see if there was any "Game Modes" or extra stuff "enhance modes" the TV did was turned off. But it stayed just like that.

I have 2 other cables i can test. I bought 3 of the same kind. Ill check those when i get home from work today.

Do you not have any analog outputs you can use to test it with?

Well, those will work, but you'll want to hook them up to the component output (the red green blue plugs). Just make sure that all 3 match between the TV and the source. Set the TV to component input and set the resolution to 1080 on the source to see if you see the problem, if you don't it's likely the HDMI cable or port.

checked other 2 cables. They all had problems @ 1080p
1 cable had white snow instead of red.(like the picture)
2nd cable didnt even read. Just said "no signal from hdmi source" when switched from 80i to 80p. lol.. ill just stick with 80i till the new cable comes in.

I'm pretty sure a new cable won't fix it, considering you already went through 3 different cables.

What will fix it is a different TV, component cables, or HDMI switchbox.

Expensive cables are just huge mark-ups. Some TV reviewers are using cheap cables in their systems because they couldn't notice a difference between them and monster cables.

You might have one bad cable, but all three being bad seems unlikely.
