    Nyzul Assault Tips

It seems most information about Nyzul Isle assault has been discovered, but I still have a few questions/concerns about it(and rather not trash up the main thread over it).

I'm going to be starting with a new group soon, not the most optimized players of FFXI(no Ridil, no Ebodies, ect) of the following set up:
-NIN/MNK/RDM (We prefer on NIN or MNK)
    -NIN/THF
    -DRK
    -BRD/WHM/RDM
    -RDM
    -BLM

Some of my concerns lie in how hard the 20/40/60/80/100 NMs are. And I don't know if they get stronger as you go up, do they?

I've never quite gotten the idea of how Treasure Boxes work. Do they disappear if you don't take all the items? I once did Nyzul with a bunch of JP and I had no idea what was going on with the boxes, but I had the feeling someone was taking all the items as soon as it popped. Could I check whats inside, take what I want, then tell the rest of the group what to grab without it disappearing on me?

Finally, any tips on Lamp floors?

Feel free to use this thread for your own questions as well. Thanks for the help.

[If a mod feels like this should be in the Advice forum, you can move it, I wasn't sure where to put it].

Jobs: I think any sort of Meleex3 Magex3 combo works, probably other combos too. We usually go NIN WAR MNK BLM RDM BRD. My friends that farmed floor 80 repeatedly I think always went MNK MNK THF BRD RDM RDM or something.

Not sure if they get harder at higher floors, they don't seem to but you'd be better off asking someone who farms them repeatedly.

The blue armory crates work as you think they do, and yes, someone in your JP group was jacking all the stuff in it. We have a mage open it while melee move to the next mob, and call out what's inside incase it's something good for melee like body boost. The orange crates that drop from the random Leaping Lizzy-type NMs will just disappear and everyone get the "So-and-so obtained a ??? whatever" message.

    Lamps in 3 easy steps:
    1. Click the first lamp you see.
2a. If it says "Certification code registered" or something, make everyone click that lamp once to unlock the rune.
2b. If it says "All the lamps must be lit at the same time" fan out, call out an ingame time, and make sure everyone clicks theirs at the same time to unlock the rune.
2c. If it says, "all lamps must be lit in some specified order" fan out to all the lamps and go to step 3.
    3. Call out an order for people to light their lamps. Once the last lamp is clicked, they will all light up for about 5 seconds. Then some will turn off, while others will stay on. For anyone whose lamp stays lit, leave them in the same place in the order. Rotate everyone whose lamp did not stay lit one spot to the left in the order (with the first person moving to the end). Repeat this as more lamps stay lit until they all stay lit and the rune lights up.

Example: Say you, me, aurik, and divisortheory are at a lamp. Unbeknownst to us, the correct order is suiram > divisortheory > aurik > BRP.

1: aurik > BRP > divisortheory > suiram (nobody's lamp stays lit after 5 seconds)
    2. BRP > divisortheory > suiram > aurik (only divisortheory's lamp stays lit after 5 seconds)
    3. suiram > divisortheory > aurik > BRP (all lamps stay lit, rune opens)

To add to the lamp thing: If you have access to Vent/TS it becomes way easier. Come to think of it, I can't think of any other event in the game that my group leans on Vent more for.

Other than that, make sure everyone in your group knows the objective for each floor and knows what specifically that objective means. I like to have a scout for each floor, which usually ends up being me as BRD. Tossing up songs and then running around trying to find the objective (or pulling if it all enemies floor) can really save a lot of time compared to having the whole group travel together and have to mow through everything you find. Oils/Powders for melee help a lot too if the objective mob(s) is behind a room or two of other mobs.

EDIT: Bosses haven't been noticeably tougher for us as we've gone higher (hit floor 75 tonight.) The group you've described should be fine, with the only worry possibly being able to put out enough dmg to take down a mob like Cerberus quickly. The group I go with is WAR WAR BRD RDM WHM THF, but we're fortunate enough to have a ridill, two adaberks, etc.

have your bard get a storm fife and go to town, it works in there like a champ and brings MP back in loads with sanction refresh

coordination is 100% the key, everyone has to agree on a movement leader and a scout and all work together, especially on lamp floors, if you play it cool you can beat any of the levels, dont take stupid risks and use your gear wisely

    You guys are awesome .

I'll have to look into chat-programs... I think I'm like 2-3 years behind everyone with that stuff.

One thing, I found this on the wiki under "Avoiding Detection":

Pulling an Archaic Gear/Archaic Gears with Ranged Attack/Foe Lullaby does not count as "discovery", and avoids the penalty.
Is this true? Does that mean you can just clear them all on these kind of floors using this? If so: awesome.

As far as the ranged attacks, that is correct. Can't comment on brd pulling.

The group I usually go with is RDM/WHM, RDM/WHM, WAR, MNK, BLU, NIN. We like 2X healer, 2X Tank, 2X Random DD so we can split into 2 groups on the kill-all floors. Sometimes the NIN or BLU is swapped for a DRK depending on who's on, in which case the MNK or BLU tank through damage.

My static is mnk/sam/nin/rdm/blm and either another rdm/smn/whm. Usually smn for the extra DD. The key is communiation. Gotta figure out what to pull and what direction to go. Your team must be able to avoid mobs, agro from mobs wastes time which is what you don't have. Here's a small tip. If your using windower, try use fillmode 1, which allows u to see through the walls. You can tab through the mobs and find Impossible To Gauge mobs, if needed.

Hmmm, as much as I am a fan of windower add-ons, I don't know if I want to do this, morally...

I guess since no one is asking questions, I will ask more:

About BLM, which I am, how are monsters in these zones considering resist rates? Are they basically normal exp mobs? For the HNMs, they have the same resist rate as their outside counterparts?

Anyway, it sounds using a chat-program is a big deal, I'm going to look into it for sure.

Our perma is very diverse in terms of jobs. Between us all we have almost every job 75. For progress runs we go Healer, Support, 4 DD, it varies between set-ups like WHM, RDM, 2MNK, BLM, NIN or RDM, COR, MNK, 2xBLU and such. For Kings however we went NIN, THF, MNK, BLM, BRD, WHM for 20/40 and we just got to 60 and tried NIN, MNK, BLU, THF, WHM, BRD. Due to some really horrid luck on floors we ended up timing out with Hydra at like 5%. The Kings are pretty easy though, 20/40 can be crushed in less then 5m, for Hydra we started on him with a little under 5m to go and would have won had he not used his Physical Shield.

Our group only takes BLM to F20/40 kings runs. Personally, I don't like going BLM as it's a pain to try to rest MP. One Floor you will pwn some shit and the next you sit resting the whole floor. For the 20/40 Kings though, BLM is great. When I do go BLM, I usually run around and scout/pull to the party to try to help out better. The mobs have the same resist rates from the real world, personally I just found it hard to keep my MP up high and still do alot of damage and help. Most of the mobs die so fast to melee anyways. BLMs are only good for the few floors you get puddings and mouse. (which arent even so bad) I had no resists from any of the 20/40 Kings though and really owned them.

For Lamps the only thing I will add is I believe there are 2 types of Ordered Lamp floors. One where the lamps will stay lit after hitting them if they were hit in the right order and one where they do not.

    example: Persons A,B,C,D,E,F

You find 4 lamps and the correct order is A,C,D,B.

you light C,D,A,B; B stays lit and the others turn off.
D,A,C,B; again only B stays lit.
    A,D,C,B; both A and B stay lit.
A,C,D,B correct order and yo go up.

    however on the second type of floor you lit them in the same fasion;
C,D,A,B; nothing stays on even though B was lit in the right order.
Now on this type of floor the only lamp that will stay on is the first in the order.
    D,A,B,C; nothing stays on.
    A,B,C,D; A stays on
A,B,C,D; only A and nothing will turn on until you find the second lamp in order.
A,C,D,B; luckily you hit the exact order on this attempt and move up.

The second Ordered Lamp floor suuuuuuuuuuucks because you have to keep going until you get each in the exact order. We got this Floor twice today, the first time it was the LAST possible order we could try.. The second time we got lucky and it was an order we got early.

I know there are both of these because we had 2 Ordered Lamp floors in a 5 floor set and we got each of these types. Hope that sense~

Personally, I write down the orders in Word and call out who to light and just keep working through the possible orders until we find it. It's easiest and usually quick if one person directs it all.

For either Gear floor we try to just avoid them, when we need to we do pull and try to sleep them though.

Pulling gears with BRD songs does work without giving you a penalty.

You can pull the gears with anything that doesn't cause them to aggro you first. They aggro magic, sound, and I believe sight also (?). I'm not sure, but I heard they aggro Job Abilities too. This leaves Ninjutsu (be careful to make sure it's not looking at you, you might get too close trying to get in range), Bard songs, and Ranged attacks.

Gears do aggro sight (long range), sound (short range), and magic (normal range for arcana/elementals). They aren't terribly hard to kill. However, you do not need to kill archaic gears to fulfil any floor objective, even kill all enemies.

The second biggest piece of advice I can give (the first being iterated several times above, communication is the biggest issue) is: Don't fight ANYTHING you don't absolutely HAVE to. If you have to clear mobs around a lamp, do it. If you have to pull gears to get to mobs behind them, do it. But every monster you fight that isn't necessary is a collosal waste of time, even the cheerfully pansy Ramparts.

The main tank in my group has ninja and paladin leveled, and uses ninja for progress floors and paladin for boss runs. If you have this option, it's very nice. In progress runs, you really can't afford to waste a damage slot on a tank, but a ninja geared offensively works well. However, on boss runs, the possibly most dangerous thing you can run into is No Ninjitsu on the boss floor. This inhibits a pld/nin, but destroys a nin/whatever. A pld/nin can do more without white magic than a ninja can do without ninjitsu, so I figure it covers your tank bases.

Since not everybody in my static (or off-day runs) uses teamspeak/ventrillo/whatever, I setup an easy system ahead of time. When we get a lamp floor, I call out their names in the order I want them to light in ("person 1, person 2, person 3, person 4!"), and have them simply type / when they've lit theirs. It's not quite as fast as TS, but it shaves a lot of time off. Then, as above, I shift to the left as needed. This got us through a two-lamp-floor run, once.

As for the bosses, I can only account for Behemoth and Fafnir. I'm a dragoon in my group, and we have very little trouble killing them, and killing them fairly quickly.

However, the thing that bites us in the ass more often than not is TIME. Time is the most important thing in Nyzul, ever moreso when you're doing a boss-floor run. If you have 5 minutes on the clock when you hit [20/40/60] and see Fafnir, you're in trouble. I hope you have a kraken drk with you.

As for jobs... as I said before, I'm almost always dragoon. It's not the most efficient (I'll switch once I get monk leveled; you know, someday), but it does get the job done, and there are certain floors when it's useful. I usually have a ninja, warrior, dragoon, two red mages, and a bard, though sometimes I switch one of the red mages to black mage. It's a hard choice to make; many times, blm damge is just NOT time efficient, but there can be mobs where a black mage is essential (especially flan-type mobs) to speed. On boss runs, I have a paladin/ninja, thief, dragoon, red mage, black mage, and bard. Our biggest issue with this setup is that, twice now, we've come across floors with a lot of draugars, and when your two primary melees are both piercing-based, that's a lot of slowdown on mobs that aren't exactly fast to begin with.

I've substituted a blue mage in for one of my red mages (the one with black mage leveled) a couple of times now, and it may be my favorite job for Nyzul. A variety of damage types, fairly efficient damage (especially with a brd + rdm tagteam), and the ability to heal if one gets No White Magic pathos.

Eh, our group has killed Fafnir in prolly like 2m with NIN,THF,MNK,BRD,WHM,BLM. The Kings hit just as hard as outside counterparts if not a bit harder but they have so little HP that they die in a few moments.

I've gone PLD once and although it ended up being a bad strat as we needed more dd(we had pld and nin for kings before we knew how easy they were) and as long as the PLD brings good DD gear they will do fine on lower floors. Just don't take 2 tanks, lol~

Although it is true, the gears link, and the gears that link with what u pull DO count as being discovered. Found this out last night doing 81 -> 86, pulled a group of gears and the single gears near it linked, causing Attack Speed Down and STR Down.

As for the bosses, my group doesnt have any Ridills, BB Monks, E Bodies etc, but the bosses are so ridiculously easy it doesnt matter. We use Nin, War, Sam, Brd, Rdm, Blm for everything we do, and we can clear anything. Only ever lost to a boss/progress once, and it was on a Floor 20 farming run, got 3 floors of Kill All Enemies, each of which had 2-3 NMs on it, with a Lamp Order floor in there.

Nyzul is ridiculously easy once u get the hang of it, and if u intend on farming the boss floors, biggest tip i can give is BRING A THIEF. Were 2/17 on Floor 20, cuz no one has Thf lvled...

    Yay, we have a THF

So I'm guessing Horde Lullaby would work when they are in groups... is their link range any greater than normal monsters?

The areas and rooms are so small they usually link/aggro like mad if you fight anywhere near them. Since they aggro sight/magic. I don't think they aggro sound though because I have run right behind them plenty of times.

I think they sight link and their sight aggro is big so yea, they prolly link pretty long distance if it's in sight. 2 Sleepers helps, we generally have 2, whether its brd/rdm/cor or blu. Sheep song is nice too btw, I was able to sleep Gears easily and I would recommend BLUs to equip it as it can be a lifesaver.

Another piece of advice - on your first disc through, if you're focusing on just one person... do not be afraid to leave early, especially in the higher floors. Leaving early can mean the difference between having another shot at the same set of floors immediately after, or having to backfarm for 2-3 runs. After your first disc, however, pressing your luck is generally fine, since you'll have a buffer of around 20k tokens.

Here's a question. If you pass a save floor and exit, does it record progress to that save floor? As in you beat F5 and keep going but exit on F8. Does it save up to F5 so you can start on F6 next time or no?

It does as long as you actually exit. If you go up to floor 8 and time out then you have to start on floor 1 again.
